Playing Starting Hands in Omaha Hi Lo

In Omaha Hi Lo, one of the ingredients to winning the pot rests on your ability to play your starting hands and making the proper adjustments concerning your strategies. While there are certain hands that should be played, you must always leave room for alterations based on the situation.

For example, a lot of players will advocate an Omaha Hi Lo strategy of playing only select hands. This is correct, because by being selective you will, in the long run, make more money. However, the fact is that a lot of players, especially in the lower limits online, tend to play loosely.

What this means is that if you play too tight, you will not get a lot of action and miss out on a lot of pot money. This does not mean you should get careless. However, you should expand some of your Omaha Hi Lo hands. You can include KK or QQ paired with any other strong hands. You can also play A2, A3 as long as they are paired or suited. Double suited hands, of course, are always playable whether you are in loose or tight games.

You should also remember that in loose Omaha games your opponents will often make draws regardless of the state of their hands. What this means is that even if you have the best hand, your opponents will still keep drawing, which will be to your advantage of course.

Something else that you will have to recognize with Omaha Hi Lo hands is that when you are playing aggressive players, you will almost always go for the nut hands. But if you are playing in a tight game, you can lessen the qualification because most will fold early.

Another Omaha Hi Lo strategy that you can use is raising pre flop. If you are holding something strong like A244 you can make a raise pre flop. This will increase the stakes and also your opponents with lesser hands will fold. Remember that as in all other Poker games, well placed aggression will always give you the edge and the inside track to the pot.

Winning in Omaha Hi Lo rests, ultimately, on playing good hands and discarding the weak and trash cards. This is something that holds true even when you are playing in loose tables. Only by ascribing to this strategy will you be able to win at the game consistently.
