The Perils of Predictability in Texas Holdem
If you have been playing Texas Holdem for a while now and have started to lose, one of the things that you can do is to check if you have become predictable. This is one of the most difficult problems that you will face, particularly because it is difficult to detect, even among seasoned and experienced players.
Not only is predictability a difficult problem to detect, but it is also one that is hard to solve because a lot of players are hesitant to accept it. Why? For several reasons, but mainly because it connotes having to change their Texas Holdem strategy or the tables that they have been playing at.
Any good player knows that part of a winning Texas Holdem strategy is reading. This is something you attain from playing the same opponents repeatedly. Once you have them read, you have in most cases half the game won. That is true, but the fact is that the opposite can also happen. If your opponents start to read your game, then you will be the one who be on the losing end.
This is what a lot of players find hard to accept, because it will entail changing their Texas Holdem strategies or even looking for another table. This will be like starting over and for a lot of players, this is something that is very difficult to do. So what they do is to try and look for something else to blame their losses for, like a bad beat, a few mental mistakes or just plain bad luck.
While these factors play a part in losing, if you have been playing Texas Holdem for a while, you will know when it is because you are being read.
However, it must be done. What you need to know, and accept that Texas Holdem is an ever changing game. Before you lose your entire bankroll, it is important that you try to change the predictable elements in your game, or if your opponents become too difficult to handle, look for another place to play in.
Those who are able to adopt will continue to prevail, and those that refuse to go with the flow will end up the losers. The sooner that you are able to accept that change is a part of Texas Holdem, the easier you will be able to adjust and continue to play in a winning and profitable manner.
